From Forest School to Founding Her Own: Dr. Christine Keck’s Journey
At The Forest School, we believe in empowering learners—and adults—to discover their calling and change the world. This year, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing that belief come to life in the journey of Dr. Christine (“Chrissy”) Keck, our Math Specialist and Founder-in-Residence, who has just reached a remarkable milestone: state approval to launch her very own school, The Meliora School, opening in Gwinnett County in Fall 2026.
SCSC Approves Two New Charter Schools
Two new Georgia charter schools will soon open, expanding access to high-quality public education across the state. On Wednesday, July 30, the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) approved Northwest Georgia Charter Academy and The Meliora School for the 2026–2027 school year. Northwest Georgia Charter Academy is a hands-on, project-based K–5 charter school serving students in Floyd County, Polk County, and the City of Rome. The Meliora School is an innovative, student-centered 6th–12th grade school opening in Gwinnett County.
Two New Charter Schools Approved for Gwinnett, Northwest Georgia
ATLANTA, GA – The State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) Board of Commissioners voted to approve charter petitions for two new start-up charter schools at its board meeting on July 30, 2025. Both schools are scheduled to open in Fall 2026.
The Meliora School will become the first 6th-12th grade charter school in Gwinnett County, offering students an individualized mastery-based education that emphasizes project-based learning in entrepreneurship and computer science.
